Congresswoman Kendra Horn voted Tuesday to protect health coverage for 175,000 Oklahomans. The U.S. House of Representatives voted on House Resolution 271, which condemns the Administration's efforts to strike down the entirety of the Affordable Care Act. The Administration is working to end protections for pre-existing conditions and all other benefits under the ACA. All Americans deserve access to quality, affordable health care, Congresswoman Horn said. We need to work to expand that access, not to contract it. The Affordable Care Act laid the groundwork for American health policy. It created protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions. It banned lifetime caps. It guaranteed that young people can stay on their parents' insurance until they're 26. The Administration is working to have the Affordable Care Act struck down with no plan to replace it. We need to preserve those critical protections and continue to improve health care. We must fight for lower prescription drug prices and expanding access to mental health and substance abuse services. We need to move forward, not backward. Without the ACA, 146,000 Oklahomans stand to lose their health care, according to the Urban Institute. Additionally, 29,000 young Oklahomans stand to lose their coverage through their parents' plans. That would be devastating to our state, Congresswoman Horn said. Oklahoma already has the second-highest rate of uninsured people in the country. More than 14 percent of Oklahomans lack health insurance, according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
