I first heard about the disgraceful housing conditions at Tinker Air Force Base from a military family that came to one of my town halls. Since then, I've met with countless parents and service members who live in privatized base housing and worry about their health and safety. I'm proud of the Tenants Bill of Rights I fought to include in defense funding legislation this year, but our work on this issue is far from over. At the same time Balfour Beatty was failing to maintain housing on Tinker Air Force Base, they were receiving millions of dollars in performance bonuses for a job well done. That's just wrong. I am calling on Balfour Beatty to return the millions in bonus payments it received for its work at Tinker, Lackland, and Malmstrom Air Force Bases during the years its employees were systematically falsifying maintenance records. I will continue my fight for justice until our military families are provided quality housing and Balfour Beatty has returned the money that it should never have accepted from taxpayers. Balfour Beatty CEO Rick Taylor responded during questioning that his company may return taxpayer funds received as bonus payments depending on the results of an FBI investigation into the matter. In addition to bringing Readiness Subcommittee Chair John Garamendi to tour Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, Congresswoman Kendra Horn worked to include a Tenants' Bill of Rights in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
