On Tuesday, Congresswoman Kendra Horn (OK-5) co-sponsored the No Budget No Pay Act, a bill which would prevent House and Senate Members from receiving their salary if they miss annual deadlines for budget and appropriations bills. The No Budget No Pay Act has bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate. Congresswoman Kendra Horn's freshman class of legislators is the first in U.S. history to enter Congress during a government shutdown. We cannot allow Congress to continue to kick the can down the road, said Congresswoman Kendra Horn. Oklahoma is home to a large population of federal employees, from our workers at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) to those at Tinker Air Force Base. These facilities play a critical role in national defense and their employees suffered greatly from the most recent government shutdown and the failure of Congress to pass a budget. Congress should never use our public servants and our national security as pawns in a political game. I co-sponsored the No Budget No Pay Act because I believe the American people deserve a Congress that will meet its constitutional responsibility and fund the government. On November 14, Congresswoman Horn sent a letter to Democratic and Republican leadership in Congress urging passage of long-term spending legislation rather than another short-term CR.
