This legislation would ban choke holdsandno-knock warrants,combatracial profiling, and create a national database of police misconduct,among other provisions. Today's bill takes an important step forward in our work to fix our nation's broken police system, said Congresswoman Horn. We needa multi-pronged approachto end systemic racism and stop the use ofexcessiveforce, and itwilltake all of us working together.Endingpolice brutality should not be a partisan issue. I will continue working to build bipartisan support for substantive reforms to fix policing.Noone should be afraid to interact with the police because of the color of their skin. The Justice in Policing Act includes measures to: Ban chokeholds; Stop no-knock warrants; End qualified immunity,a barrier to holding police officers accountable formisconduct; Combat racial profiling; Mandate data collection, including body cameras and dashboard cameras; and Establish new standards for policing. Congresswoman Horn hasintroduced bipartisan legislationto provide training to law enforcement on recognizing, deescalating, and appropriately responding to people in mental health crisis.
