On Tuesday, Congresswoman Kendra Horn (OK-5) announced her 20th town hall of the year, a virtual joint town hall on July 20 with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). The town hall will cover issues including prescription drug prices, the response to COVID-19, Medicare, Social Security, and other issues facing Oklahomans. I'm proud to partner with AARP to highlight the issues most important to Oklahoma's seniors, said Congresswoman Kendra Horn. It is important for me to hear directly from Oklahomans so I can make their voices heard in Congress. Town halls are a chance to connect about the challenges facing our state. At our AARP town hall, we will cover issues from COVID-19 to the rising cost of health care. I have stood up for our seniors by introducing legislation to tackle the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs, fighting to protect Social Security and Medicare, and by reauthorizing and strengthening the Older Americans Act. The bottom line is that we need to ensure the wellbeing of Oklahoma's seniors, especially in the midst of this health and economic crisis. In October, Congresswoman Horn introduced the Capping Out-Of-Pocket Costs for Seniors Act, legislation which would lower prescription drug costs for the 46 million patients who have Medicare Part D by reducing the program's out-of-pocket maximum from $5,100 to $2,000. The net result would be a savings of up to $3,100 annually for patients with Medicare Part D. More than 89,000 seniors in Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District rely on Medicare Part D for care. Congresswoman Horn supported passage of the CARES Act, which expanded access to telehealth services to all Medicare beneficiaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic continues to present unprecedented challenges, and coverage of telehealth services facilitates a safe environment for seniors to receive high quality health care. Congresswoman Horn is also a cosponsor of the bipartisan CONNECT for Health Act which would expand the use of telehealth and remote patient monitoring services in Medicare beyond the end of the national emergency declaration. Last year, Congresswoman Horn hosted 19 town hall events and was named one of the most accessible freshmen Members of Congress.
