On Monday, Congresswoman Kendra Horn (OK-5) called on congressional leadership to pass an immediate, bipartisan extension of the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program (FPUC). While a compromise may reduce the original $600 benefit provided in the CARES Act, Congresswoman Horn emphasized that no lapse in benefits should occur for unemployed Oklahomans. Our nation faces a continuing health and economic crisis that has left more than 120,000 Oklahomans unemployed through no fault of their own, said Congresswoman Horn. I'm calling on leadership in Congress to come together to find agreement on extending the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program. This means finding the right balance that meets the needs of unemployed Oklahomans while ensuring that no one is disincentivized from rejoining the workforce. This conversation has to happen now. The bottom line is that partisan gridlock and a lapse in benefits would only hurt our families, friends and neighbors who rely on this program to put food on the table and keep a roof over their head.
