"Today, we mark twenty years since the 9/11 attacks with a heavy heart. The thousands of Americans who lost their lives in this tragedy will never be forgotten, and we will always be in debt to the brave first responders whose heroism stood out on a dark day. "After 9/11, our nation came together to mourn and rebuild. From coast to coast, Americans rushed to do their part — donating blood, giving generously to relief funds, and carrying on with strength. While we witnessed unacceptable acts of discrimination against Muslim, Sikh, and Asian-Americans, true patriots stood against bigotry and defended the diversity that makes the United States strong. "As we mark this year's memorial, our nation's longest war has come to an end. Over two decades of conflict in Afghanistan, American troops secured justice for the victims of 9/11 and kept us safe from terror.
