https://horsford.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-horsford-secures-health-equity-amendment-to-the-community-services-block-grant-modernization-act Congressman Horsford Secures Health Equity Amendment to the Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act 2022-05-13 2022 2022-05 Democrat House NV Steven Horsford H001066 horsford.house.gov horsford https://horsford.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper "As my constituents and far too many Americans know, unequal access to quality health care can be financially crushing," said Rep. Horsford. "We know health inequity is a root cause of poverty in Nevada and across the country. We cannot combat poverty without recognizing the role that health inequities play to perpetuate the cycle of poverty.... To combat this, I urge my colleagues to support my amendment and the CSBG Modernization Act in a bipartisan manner." BACKGROUND: The Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act would reauthorize the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program through fiscal year 2031. The CSBG is designed to fund place-based programs that reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities, and empower low-income families and individuals to become self-sufficient. The majority of these funds are disbursed according to a statutory formula to states. They then fund a network of local entities who are in a position to assist within the community. Congressman Horsford's amendment will ensure that those local entities will receive training to effectively manage the needs of low-income families through addressing local causes and conditions of poverty, including health inequities. The Community Services Block Grant Modernization Act of 2022 with Congressman Horsford's amendment passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 246-169. ### MEDIA CONTACT 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-08T02:29:07Z
