On Thursday, November 14, 2019, Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) joined his colleagues in the Ways and Means Committee for a hearing on caring for aging Americans. The number of Americans over the age of 65 is projected to almost double by 2060 from 52 million in 2018 to 95 million and the proportion of the total population over the age of 65 will tick up from 16 to 23 percent. As America's aging population grows, Congress has a role to play in ensuring the health care system is prepared to deliver the services that most Americans will need as they age. Congressman Horsford highlighted the story of Billy Ellison, a senior in Nevada's Fourth Congressional District, who suffered at the hands of a local short-term post-acute hospital where his care providersresponsible for his health and safetystopped caring for him appropriately.
