The funding builds on the $2 million Rep. Houchin secured in FY2026 for Phase I of the project. The funding would support continued shoreline protection and stabilization efforts along the Ohio River near the McAlpine Locks and Dams area in Clarksville. The project recipient is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the Town of Clarksville. “Protecting critical infrastructure along the Ohio River is incredibly important for Southern Indiana,” said Rep. Houchin. “This long overdue funding is another step toward protecting and preserving the eroding shoreline in Clarksville, support long-term stability of the roadway, and help ensure the safety and reliability of this historically important corridor for years to come.” The McAlpine Shoreline Protection Phase II project is intended to continue erosion mitigation and shoreline stabilization work in the area surrounding the McAlpine Locks and Dam system, which serves as a vital transportation and economic asset for the region. The project must still pass the full House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and be signed into law before funding is finalized.
