This bill provides needed funding to communities to recover from natural disasters, extends authorities used to detect and monitor drone activity, provides essential funding for telehealth access and community health centers, and extends the farm bill. It also prevents 66,000 federal workers in Pennsylvania from being involuntarily furloughed right before the holidays. “We know that legislating can be messy so while I’m frustrated, I’m not terribly surprised that we went beyond the eleventh hour to figure this out. What is alarming, and unprecedented, is the extent to which one man, Elon Musk, who wasn’t elected and has no official government role was able to torpedo a bipartisan agreement while using his extraordinary wealth to threaten and bully members. Democrats have, once again, been the adults in the room here in Washington – we have compromised with our votes and provided for the needs of the people, not the elite. “I hope Speaker Johnson and the majority take the upcoming time at home to truly listen to their constituents and communities before they return to D.C. in January. If they are listening, I am certain they will hear that Americans do not want tax cuts for the wealthiest among us paid for by increased debt and decreased benefits for the rest of us.” Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
