Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement expressing disappointment that the Administration did not use its authority to establish pay parity for military personnel and federal civilian employees in Fiscal Year 2017: “I am disappointed that the Administration did not use its authority to provide for an average 2.1% pay raise in 2017 for federal civilian employees, which would establish parity with the 2017 raise for military personnel serving in non-combat areas that Congress is expected to include in the FY2017 defense authorization bill. The principle of parity, which the Administration supported in its 2017 budget proposal when it proposed a 1.6% raise for both military personnel and federal civilian employees, is critical because it recognizes the essential services that both uniformed military personnel and federal civilian employees provide to the American people, whether they wear a uniform, conduct research in a federal lab, or provide medical services to our veterans.
