Today U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08) released the following statement after voting for a short-term continuing resolution (CR) through February 8th that includes President Donald Trump's requested $5 billion in border security: "I made a promise to my constituents that I would fight for common sense border security,said Rep. Hudson.We have a crisis at our southern border, and I will stand with President Trump to secure the resources he needs to secure our border and keep the American people safe. In March, Rep. Hudson voted to fully fund the president's request for almost $2 billion for a down-payment on border wall funding. Rep. Hudson remains committed to securing the border and stopping illegal immigration. He believes we must secure the border first, fix the systemic issue of illegal immigration, close loopholes like catch-and-release, and send a clear signal that those who arrive here illegally will not be allowed to stay. Rep. Hudson has voted for billions of dollars in border security for things like more boots on the ground, increased detention space, improved surveillance technology, and a wall. On June 21, he voted for the Securing America's Future Act (H.R. 4760), legislation that would, among other provisions: authorize border wall construction; provide additional technology, roads and other tactical infrastructure; increase boots on the ground and border patrol; and require full implementation at all air, land and sea ports of entry.
