This new law will increase access to affordable, quality health care in rural and underserved communities by allowing community health centers to use New Access Point (NAP) grants for establishing mobile health units. This was Hudson's twenty-first bill to pass the House this Congress and the ninth to be signed into law. "The MOBILE Health Care Act is critical for improving health care quality and access across our country," said Rep. Hudson. "I am proud this bill has been signed into law and will continue working to deliver commonsense results like this that improve our community, state, and nation." Along with Rep. Hudson, Representatives Susie Lee (D-NV), Raul Ruiz, M.D. (D-CA), and Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) served as original House cosponsors on the legislation. Senators Jackie Rosen (D-NV) and Susan Collins (R-ME) served as original cosponsors on the companion piece in the Senate. In North Carolina, 18 community health centers currently operate 38 mobile units. For North Carolina’s 43 total community health centers and the nearly 750,000 patients they serve across 400 clinical locations, this law will help them to expand their current services to meet patients’ current and future needs. H.R. 5141 was supported by the North Carolina Community Health Center Association, Cabarrus Rowan Community Health Centers, Inc., and Community Free Clinic in Concord. This is in addition to the National Association of Community Health Centers, National Rural Health Association, American Dental Association, and National Health Care for the Homeless Council. Last week, Rep. Hudson was awarded with the 2022 Distinguished Community Health Center Advocate Award by the National Association of Community Health Centers for his leadership on the MOBILE Health Care Act and continued support of health centers. Rep. Hudson is an active member of House Republicans' Healthy Future Task Force and sits on the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee.
