The event will focus on the issue of global hunger and hunger as experienced by many in our own region, and approaches to address and alleviate hunger both locally and globally. According the Northern Illinois Food Bank, nearly 600,000 people in northern Illinois rely on food pantries and meal programs to feed themselves and their families. To RSVP for the event on Facebook, Clickhere. Our community has worked to raise awareness of the problem of hunger in our region just as others have sought to bring attention to it on a worldwide level, said Rep. Hultgren. Although the challenges to overcome hunger are daunting, they are not beyond our ability to confront and in many cases resolve them. I look forward to hearing about constructive approaches to address the scourge of hunger and expert insight into how we as a community, both locally as well as globally, can participate in finding solutions and helping those whose lives are afflicted by hunger. As Co-chairman of the influential congressional Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Rep. Hultgren has focused on alleviating global hunger as a component of an effective overall human rights policy. He is a cosponsor of the Global Food Security Act and the Global Food Security Reauthorization Act to require development and implementation of a global food security strategy to promote food security, resilience, and nutrition.
