This program will require physicians who prescribe opioids and other controlled substances to register with the states database, preventing patients from getting multiple opioid prescriptions from multiple health care providers. Tracking opioid prescriptions and overdoses in Illinois was one of the key recommendations of my 2017 Community Action Plan to Combat Heroin and Opioid Abuse, said Rep. Hultgren. The men and women on the front lines of this fight have been making the case for a statewide tracking database. I am very pleased to see that this will be a mandatory program in Illinois, one that will close a major gap in our approach to the opioid epidemic.
