The video was shown at a National Apprenticeship Week event today for 14th District employers hosted by the McHenry County Workforce Network. (Click picture to watch video) “Since I’ve been in Congress, my number one priority has been jobs—finding out how we can get Americans back into good-paying, meaningful jobs that provide for them and their families,” said Rep. Hultgren in an excerpt from the video. “One of the greatest challenges facing workers today is connecting the skills and knowledge they have with the jobs that actually exist. That goes for those recently unemployed, and our veterans, disabled and youth, as well. Similarly, many small and medium-size businesses have trouble finding qualified applicants for the jobs of the 21st century. “Apprenticeships are a local workforce and economic initiative—but there’s also a national effort through Secretary Acosta at the Department of Labor to promote an increase in the number of apprenticeships businesses offer, and to streamline the certification of these programs…And it’s not just for manufacturers—tech and telecom companies, for instance, regularly implement training and mentorship programs.
