Successfully passing this legislation and having it signed by the President means giving loved ones, friends, and family across the nation a chance to fight for their lives. Right to Try gives terminally-ill patients the ability to use all available resources, including new drugs that have passed preliminary FDA safety tests, to treat their diseases. I'm proud to help give families hope when hope was seemingly lost. Background: The Right to Try Act was originally introduced in the House on February 7, 2017 to give patients a chance to receive treatments that haven't yet completed the years-long FDA approval process. Rep. Lewis was an original cosponsor. These drugs have passed safety tests and offer benefits that outweigh the risks for the terminally ill. Right to Try is law in 38 states, including Minnesota, and this bill would make sure that the FDA respects state law while maintaining safeguards, such as physician certification. The House passed the Senate version of the bill, and President Trump signed it into law on May 30th, 2018. f t # e | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
