https://jasonlewis.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=169 Lewis attends signing of VA MISSION Act at White House 2018-06-06 2018 2018-06 Republican House MN Jason Lewis L000587 jasonlewis.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON D.C.- Congressman Jason Lewis (MN-02) issued the following statement after joining President Donald Trump at the White House this afternoon for the signing of S. 2372, the VA MISSION Act of 2018. With the signing of the VA MISSION Act today, I'm proud that we are making concrete steps to improve health care under the VA. Reforms made to the Veterans Choice program will increase veterans' medical access and flexibility to choose their own doctors and caregivers. Caregivers will also receive expanded benefits to properly compensate them for their selfless commitment to help our country's heroes. I'm proud to support the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country by fighting for better and more efficient care, and I'm glad we could get this done on the anniversary of D-Day. Background: The VA MISSION Act of 2018 is a bipartisan compromise aimed at modernizing the VA through various steps, including: Reforming and continuing funding for the Choice Program to ensure veterans can seek the medical care of their choosing, while also streamlining the program so veterans have more flexibility to seek medical care outside the VA system. Modernizing VA medical facilities to improve care for veterans by updating infrastructure and auditing the VA's assets. Creating equity between seriously injured pre-9/11 and post-9/11 veterans by allowing pre-9/11 caregivers to receive a monthly stipend and other support. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
