Since 1869, there have consistently been nine justices appointed to the Supreme Court, a number that is set by Congress not the Constitution. House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said that if a justice is confirmed before the November election, he would support packing the court. It seems that every time House Democrat Leadership does not get what they want, they decide to change the rules, said Representative Rose. I co-sponsored this Constitutional Amendment, to protect the legitimacy of the Supreme Court and to ensure its size is only changed for legitimate reasons, not political retaliation. Specifically, this would amend the U.S. Constitution to prohibit a change to the number of seats on the U.S. Supreme Court until 10 years after enactment of any legislation to alter the size of the Court. U.S. Representative John Rose represents Tennessee's Sixth Congressional District and resides in Cookeville with his wife, Chelsea, and their son, Guy.
