The full speech, as prepared for delivery, is below: Mr. Speaker, our Thanksgiving celebration for this year is in the rearview mirror, but the rising inflation that drove dinner costs higher this year is sticking around for the Christmas season and will continue to crush household budgets into the new year. From the grocery store to the gas pump, Americans across the board are paying more for just about everything. No matter where any of us fall on the income ladder, none of us can escape paying more for less. However, lower income households and the elderly who are on fixed incomes will be hit hardest by the pain that inflation always inflicts. Just last month, the price of consumer goods rose 6.2 percent from the same time last year, with substantial double digit increases on grocery store staples like meat, poultry, fish, and even eggs. Nationwide, the average cost of a gallon of fuel is $3.41, roughly 50 percent higher than the same time last year. In Middle Tennessee, the constituents I represent are paying a whopping $3.10 for a gallon of gas compared to a $1.89 a year ago. So, what's driving this sky-rocketing inflation? Wasteful and increased federal spending that encourages workers to remain on the sidelines, supply-chain shortages, and transportation disruptions are to blame. Americans are not stupid. That's why a majority say that President Biden's multi-trillion-dollar, socialist tax-and-spend scheme will only make bad inflation even WORSE, not better. Thank you. I yield back.
