"This is outstanding news for Kenton," Jordan said. "Competition for firefighter grants is always tough, and it's a tribute to the department that its application was approved." Jordan wrote to DHS last year in support of Kenton's application. The funding is made available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, through which DHS will award roughly $390 million to fire departments and other emergency responders across the nation this year. Since the program's inception in 2001, more than $16.7 million has been awarded to fire departments in Ohio's Fourth Congressional District.
