https://jordan.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-jordan-stands-firm-energy Rep. Jordan Stands Firm on Energy 2009-05-13 2009 2009-05 Republican House OH Jim Jordan J000289 jordan.house.gov jordan https://jordan.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper May 13, 2009 Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) said that despite his opposition to the most recent Democrat energy proposal, he was encouraged by progress towards a comprehensive energy bill that appears to have resulted from Republican pressure on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). "It was refreshing to see that the overwhelming sentiment of the American people, echoed by House Republicans over the August recess, has moved Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats from a staunch ‘no new energy' position to one that is willing to consider a move towards energy independence," said Jordan. "We need to keep the pressure on them to ensure that we have a comprehensive energy policy that includes new drilling, expanded refinery capacity, and more incentives for renewable and alternative fuels, the combination of which will put us on the path to independence from Middle Eastern oil," he added. Jordan said the Democrat bill included a limited amount of new drilling, but was rife with drilling restrictions and tax hikes, both of which would lead to price spikes. "This bill has no payoff at the pump, where we need it most," concluded Jordan. "Nineteen billion dollars in tax hikes is not an energy plan; it is a way to fatten the government's coffers at the expense of the American consumer." 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-06T21:14:27Z
