Nearly 100,000 people in my district rely on the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits to keep their coverage — without them, many will go without care,” said Johnson. “Tucked away in this bill is a brazen payoff, funneling millions of taxpayer dollars to benefit a handful of Senators while families struggle to afford groceries and health care. That is an insult to every hardworking American who expects honesty from their government. The contrast could not be clearer: Republican cruelty and corruption versus Democratic courage and compassion. The American people deserve better, and I will never stop fighting to protect the basic necessities every family needs to survive.” Prior to the legislation coming to the House for a vote, Johnson offered amendments to extend the Affordable Care Act’s health care tax credits for three years and ensure that SNAP benefits go uninterrupted during a future government shutdown, respectively. Republicans unanimously rejected consideration of both amendments.
