Today, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NWF) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) awarded Put-in-Bay $700,000 through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to construct a living shoreline at Scheeff East Point Preserve on South Bass Island. Combined with $950,000 in matching funds from Put-in-Bay, the $1.65 million project will remove foreign debris and utilize a variety of natural shoreline restoration techniques – including the placement of trees, boulders, native vegetation, and beach materials – to stabilize the shoreline and enhance wetland and aquatic habitats for native species. “Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island’s natural beauty are true gems of Lake Erie that must be protected,” said Rep.
