During their conversation Congresswoman Kaptur and Ambassador Kawar stressed their shared prioritization of securing a durable peace in the conflict centered around a two-state solution. This follows Congresswoman Kaptur speaking on November 3rd with Egyptian Ambassador Motaz Zahran. “In order to achieve a meaningful and lasting peace in this region, we must express a deeper understanding and sympathy for all individuals who have been painfully impacted by the violence that began on October 7th. Our objective must be peace for all, through a two-state solution. “Today, I spoke with the Ambassador from Jordan, Dina Kawar, continuing my diplomatic efforts to support relief for the people of Gaza and respectful dialogue with all parties who are affected by this conflict and to express my deep and continued concern for those still held hostage. Ambassador Kawar has served her nation in Washington since 2016, before which she served as the head of the Jordanian delegation when the nation sat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Council from 2014 to 2015. “During our discussion we shared our common views that the primary objective must be peace and that a two-state solution is the only way to secure a durable stability. To achieve this goal Hamas cannot be permitted to conduct further terrorist acts against Israel. Nearly 20 years ago, Jordan took the courageous step of banning Hamas in the country due to its understanding of the dangers that Hamas posed. Additionally, Israel must be prepared to accommodate a sovereign and prosperous Palestinian state. “I had the pleasure of extending an invitation to Ambassador Kawar for her and her peers to come to Congress to meet with Members of Congress and share her nation’s understanding of the conflict and priorities in searching for a meaningful resolution to the conflict. Jordan has made peace with Israel and is home to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and their relatives.
