Kathleen Rice Backs United StatesMexicoCanada Agreement USMCA improves and modernizes the North American Free Trade Agreement to reflect the 21st century economy f t # e Washington, December 19, 2019 WASHINGTON U.S. Representative Kathleen Rice (NY-04) today voted in support of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Implementation Act, a bill that makes long-needed updates to modernize the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The bill passed the House of Representatives today with strong bipartisan support by a vote of 385-41. "I am proud to support the updated United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement which will defend American jobs, support workers' rights, and add important protections and resources to safeguard our environment, said Representative Rice. The deal also closes key loopholes and gives the United States authority to ensure our trading partners are following the agreement. The provisions in USMCA will benefit business in Long Island, and I am grateful to my Democratic colleagues in the House who worked so hard to strengthen this bipartisan agreement. The updated USMCA will: Increase certainty between the United States and its two largest trading partners Establish a rapid-response labor enforcement system to increase labor standards and ensure our trading partners are complying with the agreement Create high-standard environmental protections and provide the resources to implement and enforce them Require countries to honor their obligations under Multilateral Environment Agreements and maintain a path for the United States to rejoin the Paris Agreement Improve enforcement by closing loopholes and streamlining the dispute settlement system Expand U.S. exports in digital goods by creating a new digital trade chapter The full text of USMCA can be found here. f t # e | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
