Rep. Katko introduced this bipartisan bill alongsideU.S. Rep. Joe Neguse (D, CO-02). The Head Start program partners with providers in Central New York and across the nation to promote the development and school readinessof infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children from low-income families. During the pandemic, many Head Start providers were forced to quickly adjust their model, hire additional staff to meet rising need, and purchase PPE and cleaning supplies to protect staff and families. As a result, providers in Central New York and across the country have been burdened with increased operational costs that threaten their ability to maintain services. According to estimates from the National Head Start Association, costs for the program will increase by up to 20 percent this year. Rep. Katko's legislation addresses this estimated shortfall and supports local providers by providing the resources necessary to safely conductin-person instructionin compliance with local health guidelinesand maintain virtual and home-based services.
