Kean, Jr. K000398 kean.house.gov kean https://kean.house.gov/media/press-releases scraper Contact: Dan Scharfenberger (March 21, 2023) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) introduced the ‘One-Seat-Ride Act’ to direct the Secretary of Transportation to conduct a cost/benefit analysis of a one-seat-ride trip versus a transfer trip option during “peak hours” on NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line. This legislation, H.R. 1547, directs the Secretary of Transportation to conduct a cost/benefit analysis of a one-seat-ride trip versus a transfer trip option during “peak hours” on NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line. The results of this study will then be transmitted to key Congressional Committees. The bill has been referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. “Long, inefficient rush-hour commutes mean lost time at kids' sporting events and missed family dinners for countless households in our area. Local commuters should not have to take multiple trains to access New York City,” Kean said. “This study will lay out for the first time on a national level, the inefficiencies of multi-stop rides and the effect that has on our economy. I am fighting for one-seat-ride to help build a 21st century transit system that will grow our economy and because New Jersey commuters simply deserve better." Currently, Raritan Valley Line passengers are forced to change trains at Newark Penn Station to access New York City, and make the same change heading westbound. ‘One-Seat-Ride’ allows passengers to take one time-efficient train from stations such as Westfield, Somerville, and Lebanon directly into New York City. 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T23:30:02Z
