The program supports equipment, training, and protective gear aimed at keeping first responders and communities safe from fire and related hazards. “Firefighters and emergency responders provide a selfless service, racing into difficult and dangerous situations to help their neighbors and protect our communities,” said Congressman Kennedy, a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security. “The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program provides critical resources to enhance capabilities and improve safety. I encourage local fire departments to apply.” The application period opens on November 12, 2024, and the deadline to apply is 5:00 p.m. on December 20, 2024. The program makes $291.6 million in grant funding available to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical services (EMS) organizations nationwide.
