McCarthy released the following statement: This important grant award will help the City of Porterville, through Porterville Transit, explore innovative solutions to enhance the current system and provide better transportation options for residents, including those living in more rural communities. While keeping the region's challenging air quality conditions and the state's power outages in mind, this project will assess the best path forward by researching the incorporation of battery-electric vehicles, bicycle and car sharing, and on-demand transportation services. Additionally, mobility-as-a-service planning will evaluate transit modes to most effectively connect transportation-challenged populations, including low-income and elderly populations, with regional employment and health care services. By investigating a robust list of options, not only is the City of Porterville making a conscious effort to promote a healthy environment, but it is working to ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors are supported. I thank Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao for her thoughtful consideration and ultimate approval of this grant award which I trust will have a positive impact on our community. I am also grateful for Mayor Martha Flores' leadership on this issue.
