Specifically, HHS changed the reporting requirements to increase flexibility in how health care providers use PRF funds. Last week, McCarthy sent aletterto HHS Secretary Azar encouraging him to make changes to the September 19, 2020 PRF reporting requirements and included constituent letters from local health care providers citing concern with the September-issued guidance. McCarthy's letter was the result of a teleconference meeting he held earlier this month with local health care providers and hospital administrators who voiced concerns about having to return PRF funds under the September guidance. McCarthy released the following statement: Health care providers have been working selflessly on the frontlines of COVID-19 since the very beginning to ensure the most vulnerable in our community receive the best care possible. They have also, like many Americans, been significantly impacted financially by COVID-19. I commend Secretary Azar for making this decision to ensure that local health care providers can continue to serve our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Background: The CARES Act created the Provider Relief Fund and tasked HHS with distributing $175 billion to health care providers for health care related expenses or lost revenues attributed to COVID-19. HHS subsequently issued instructions and reporting requirements to those providers that have received funds from the PRF on June 19, 2020. In September2020, HHS issued revised instructions and reporting requirements for providers'use of PRF funds, and placed certain limitations ontheuse of PRF funds.
