McCarthy's letter was in response to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' abrupt cancellation of a lease award for a facility in Bakersfield, California, earlier this year: The facts haven't changed. Our veterans must continue waiting for a new healthcare facility because the VA failed to follow its own rules, resulting in the cancellation of the lease awarded last year for a new CBOC in Bakersfield. I share our veterans' frustrations and continue to communicate their concerns directly to Secretary Willkie. While Secretary Wilkie has provided our community an updated timeline at my request, to maintain credibility with Kern County veterans, the VA must adhere to this new schedule and its own procurement policies.I will hold the VA's feet to the fire on this procurement schedule our veterans deserve nothing less.
