| https://kihuen.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=157 | REP. KIHUEN: PRESIDENT TRUMP COULD CAUSE HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS TO SPIKE 15% IN NEVADA | 2017-10-13 | 2017 | 2017-10 | Democrat | House | NV | Ruben Kihuen | K000390 | kihuen.house.gov | legacy | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 13, 2017 Contact: Miguel R. Salazar, 202-225-9894 Adrian Boafo Press.Kihuen@mail.house.gov WASHINGTON, D.C – Today, Congressman Ruben J. Kihuen released the statement below following President Trump’s decision to end critical cost-sharing reduction payments that help offset out-of-pocket costs for lower-income Americans. “One thing is clear: President Trump and Washington Republicans are determined to sabotage our country's health care system, regardless of how many people are left without the coverage they desperately need. Unilaterally ending the cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments will increase premiums and deductibles, driving up out-of-pocket costs for hardworking families across the country. Nevadans could see their premiums spike by 15%, putting the health and financial security of our seniors, veterans, and hardworking families in jeopardy. In the absence of leadership from the Trump Administration, I urge my Republican colleagues to work with Democrats to pass the Marketplace Certainty Act, which would make these CSR payments permanent and help stabilize the healthcare marketplace.” Background: In 2016, more than 50,000 Nevadans benefited from an estimated $35.6 million in CSR payments, helping ensure they had access to affordable healthcare. Republican attempts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act (ACA) have already created instability in the Nevada marketplace. This summer, two health insurers decided to pull out of Nevada’s Silver State Exchange because of repeated attempts from Congressional Republicans to repeal the ACA. Health insurers have made it clear that uncertainty about funding CSR payments is already creating a crisis in the market, leading to fewer choices for consumers and driving up premiums. Earlier this year, Rep. Kihuen cosponsored the Marketplace Certainty Act which would permanently fund CSR subsides, help address market instability and make insurance plans more affordable for Nevadans. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
