The potential grant will support the Targeted Wetland Restoration Project in Garapan, Saipan. The project aims to restore ecosystem services through invasive species removal, reestablishment of native plants, and re-engineering of drainage systems at two wetlands within Saipan’s most populated watershed. In total, 2.5 acres of wetlands will be restored to help reduce flooding, increase wetland storage capacity, improve water quality, and enhance habitat for the endangered Mariana common moorhen. This project is still under consideration with the NFWF, with a final announcement expected soon. The NFWF, a nonprofit organization created by Congress, supports conservation efforts nationwide by leveraging investments to promote locally driven stewardship of fish, wildlife, and plant habitats.
