The ceremony is a powerful reminder of Tinian's unique place in world history and of our responsibility to remember both the events that took place here and the lives forever changed by them. In my remarks, I reflected on growing up on Tinian, where history was never something found only in books, but something that lived beneath our feet and shaped the conversations we had as children. I also spoke about the people of Tinian who rebuilt their island after the war and demonstrated that even after unimaginable conflict, communities can choose reconciliation, friendship, and peace.
