That means austerity, reduced services, and difficult decisions about how limited local resources are used. One of the places where those pressures are felt most directly is in our public school system. The CNMI Public School System educates thousands of our children, and federal funding already supports a significant share of its operating budget. I am grateful that we have been able to protect those federal resources, but with local revenues continuing to shrink, we also need to think creatively about how every available resource can be used to support our schools. That is why I sincerely appreciate PSS Board Chair Maisie Tenorio and PSS Director Donna Flores for coming by and having a frank and productive conversation about needs, opportunities, and how we can develop a shared strategy for leveraging federal and local resources to give our children the strong educational foundation they deserve.
