Stops on the day-longtour included natural gas, hydropower, nuclear, and ethanol-producing facilities as well as a local gas station and an energy roundtable discussion. The discussion was attended by industry leaders, state legislators, local elected officials, and municipal directors,focusing on meeting the energy needs of local citizens and creating jobs through expanded energy production. For additional photos from the energy tour, click here: Starved Rock Hydroelectric Plant A summary of stops on the tour is listed below: Aux Sable Liquid Products, Morris, IL: As a natural gas liquids (NGL) processing plant, the Aux Sable site is capable of extracting raw natural gas and fractioning, or separating, for use other occurring compounds such as ethane, propane, and butane. The plant located on US Highway 6 processes 120,000 barrels per day of NGL products and has processed six trillion cubic feet of natural gas since its origin in 2000. Beck's Convenience Store, Peru, IL: Rep. Kinzinger heard from local residents on the impact high gas prices are having on summer plans. Starved Rock hydroelectric power station, Peru, IL: Owned and managed by the city of Peru, the hydroelectric power station uses 1.2 million gallons of water a minute and can generate 40 million kilowatts of energy a year, the equivalent of 73,000 barrels of oil. Illinois River Energy bio-refinery, Rochelle, IL: Covering 81 acres in southwest Rochelle, this bio-refinery processes 40 million bushels of corn a year and produces fuel grade ethanol, distiller's grains, and industrial corn oil. Byron Nuclear Generating Station, Byron, IL: Constructed in 1985, the Byron nuclear plant generates approximately 2,336 net megawatts of electricity and services more than 2 million homes. Overall, nuclear power generates 50% of Illinois electricity usage.
