The bipartisan letter was signed by 181 Members of Congress including members of the House leadership team and the chairmen of the Committees on Armed Services, Homeland Security, and the Judiciary. This letter makes clear to the White House that the House will not stand by as Americans' Constitutional rights are threatened, said Kinzinger. This deeply flawed treaty should never have been signed - it places American sovereignty at risk and opens the door to UN intrusion into the personal lives of Americans. We will continue to stand up for Americans' freedoms, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to do the same. The UN Arms Trade Treaty, which passed the UN General Assembly earlier this year, was signed by Secretary of State John Kerry on September 25, 2013. Like all treaties, the Arms Trade Treaty must be ratified by two-thirds of the U.S. Senate before becoming law. To date, the Senate has not taken action to ratify this treaty.
