The Pentagon and California National Guard need to work with Congress to address this issue, but not on the backs of our service members. A good place to start would be with the House passed resolution from May 2016. Section 642 of the National Defense Authorization Act establishes a statute of limitations on the military recovering future overpayments. The bottom line here is that we cannot and should not allow the mistakes of the Department of Defense and California National Guard be taken out on our men and women in uniform who reenlisted in good faith on the terms presented, and have served our country so honorably.
