| https://knight.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2408 | Women in Aerospace Education Act signed into law | 2018-12-12 | 2018 | 2018-12 | Republican | House | CA | Steve Knight | K000387 | knight.house.gov | legacy | On Tuesday, December 11, 2018, President Trump signed into law H.R. 4254, the Women in Aerospace Education Act. This bill wasintroduced by Representative Steve Knight(R-CA) in November of 2017 andpassed the House of Representativein December of 2017.The Women in Aerospace Education Act is designed to engage girls at a young age to enter fields that have predominantly been male-dominated. Under existing law, Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship grants are used by universities to cover the cost of STEM-degree students who go on to teach in rural or lower-income school districts. This bill would encourage universities applying for Noyce grants to incorporate aerospace engineering working and learning experiences at the National Laboratories and NASA Centers into their teacher training experience. These teachers, once certified, will then enter classrooms with first-hand knowledge of the impact aerospace projects have on our lives and share that inspiration with their students. "I'm very happy that this bill has received bipartisan and near-unanimous support in both the House and the Senate,"said Rep. Knight"Some of our brightest and most talented minds can be found in our girls and young women, yet they still represent just a small minority in the aerospace and defense industries. By engaging them at a young age in the possibilities of space and aeronautics development, we can ignite a lifelong passion in these fields to help continue America's leadership in all things that fly. This will not only empower our local talent, but will also give a boost to our local industry and small businesses who will have a larger pool of talent to draw from" Representative Knight is a member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. He is also the Co-Founder and Co-Chair of theNASA Caucus. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
