Today's announcement builds on the Administration's withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 agreement on oversight of Iran's nuclear program. Congressman Kustoff said: "I applaud President Trump for re-imposing tough sanctions which were lifted under the deeply flawed Iran Nuclear Deal. These sanctions send the clear, direct message that the United States will not tolerate a regime that funds terrorism and oppresses its citizens. It is imperative that we impose further financial pressure and ensure that Iran does not achieve nuclear capability. I will continue to work closely with my colleagues on a strategy that will protect our allies in the Middle East." In March 2017, Kustoff cosponsored The Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act (H.R. 1698), bipartisan legislation introduced by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) and Ranking Member Eliot Engel (D-NY). The bill targets those involved in Iran's missile development – including foreign companies and banks. Kustoff is also a member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance, which continually examines the effectiveness of current non-nuclear sanctions against Iran. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-06-27T23:10:16Z
