Raúl Labrador has been honored by the American Farm Bureau Federation and National Association of Manufacturers for his support of agriculture and manufacturing in the United States. Labrador was named a “Friend of the Farm Bureau” by NFIB for his voting record, sponsorship of legislation, leadership on key Farm Bureau issues and accessibility to farmers, ranchers and Farm Bureau leadership. Labrador was nominated by the Idaho Farm Bureau and the award was approved by the Board of Directors of the American Farm Bureau. Idaho’s other members of Congress – Sens. Mike Crapo and Jim Risch and Rep. Mike Simpson – also received the award. “The members of our congressional delegation understand the importance of agriculture to our state’s economy and to our nation’s security,” said Idaho Farm Bureau President Frank Priestley. “It’s a pleasure to work with these fine gentlemen.” Farm Bureau is the largest general farm organization in the U.S., with affiliates in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Labrador also was honored by the country’s largest manufacturing association, the National Association of Manufacturers, which represents small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and all 50 states. He received the “NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence” for his record on 29 key votes in the House in 2013 and 2014. Labrador earned an 89 percent rating from NAM. Among the scored votes were several promoting diverse energy exploration and development, including speeding approval of the Keystone XL pipeline; regulatory, tax and tort reform bills; and both all-out repeal of the Affordable Care Act and a one-year delay of the law’s employer mandate. “The NAM is proud to stand with lawmakers like Rep. Labrador who understand what is at stake and seek to implement policies that will foster innovation, growth and competiveness,” said Aric Newhouse, senior vice president of policy and government relations. Sens. Crapo and Risch and Rep. Simpson also received the NAM award. The Farm Bureau and NAM awards were announced this month. In September, Labrador was recognized by two other major associations for his 2013-14 pro-business voting record.
