Lacy Clay (D) Missouri: "Nelson Mandela was not only the father of a free South Africa, he was a giant for justice who inspired millions around the world with his courage, dedication and unyielding dignity. His great moral force defeated the evils of Apartheid and led his nation to a peaceful transition to majority rule. Mandela's life was a shining example of leaving the world a better place than what he was born into. I was honored to work for his release and the abolishing of the horrible system of Apartheid during my years in the Missouri State legislature.
