The China Task Force will build off their comprehensive report released last year by generating additional cross-jurisdictional policy solutions for our strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China - including the investigation into the origins of COVID-19, how to best protect our supply chains, and how to win in ongoing technological and economic competition. "Last Congress, I was proud to work on the Republican China Task Force to help outline a vision for America that will strengthen our competitiveness around the globe," said Rep. LaHood. "There is more work to be done, and I am proud to once again join with leading Members of Congress to continue addressing the generational challenges we face in relation to the U.S. relationship with China. As a member of the Ways and Means and Intelligence Committees, I look forward to working with my Republican colleagues to promote policy solutions that advance the United States’ trade interests, strengthen national security, and ensure that the world gains a full understanding of the COVID-19 origins." In May of 2020, the China Task Force was launched by Congressional Republicans to enhance domestic competitiveness. In September of 2020, the China Task Force unveiled a legislative report that included more than 400 recommendations. Of those, 180 are legislative recommendations, of which 64 percent are bipartisan and one-third have already passed either the House or the Senate. The China Task Force will continue to prioritize Republican policy ideas and legislation that protect U.S. institutions from malign influence and coercion, advance the U.S. technological edge in key sectors, and make our citizens and society resilient to malign influence from foreign actors. Rep. LaHood is a member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee - the oldest committee in Congress - and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also co-chairs the U.S.-China Working Group. As the only member of the Ways and Means Committee on the China Task Force last Congress, Rep. LaHood played an integral role in crafting the Energy and Economics pillars of the report, which address United States competition in international trade, the movement of capital, economic statecraft, and the energy industry.
