While Thanksgiving takes on a different meaning and form this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's important that we join together in spirit to share in our collective thanks for the opportunities and relationships we enjoy. Now, more than ever, we should remind ourselves that we cannot take these blessings for granted. As we prepare for our Thanksgiving meal this afternoon, I am thankful for my three sons, McKay, Lucas, and Teddy, my loving wife Kristen, and our home in central and west-central Illinois. I am especially grateful for my family's good health this year, the health care professionals working hard to fight COVID-19, the essential workers, and the brave men and women serving in our military overseas so that we can enjoy the comforts of living in the greatest country in the world. While we are all blessed with a wonderful community, it is important during this season of thanks to not forget those who are less fortunate. This year has been a challenge for so many across Illinois, and those of us who are able should take time during the holiday season to return our blessings and find a way to give back to those in need. While we may not be able to gather with friends to play football or gather with everyone in our extended family in person, please take a moment to stop and reflect on what you are thankful for today. We are all blessed to live in a country that allows each of us the freedom to chart our own path and to live out the American dream. For that, we should all be thankful.
