This grant is expected to create 620 jobs, retain 200 jobs, and spur $26 million in economic activity. Following on previous successful airport grant awards, this funding will help travel to and from Chico Municipal Airport, while bringing needed new jobs to Chico, said Congressman Doug LaMalfa (CA-01). The planned improvements to this corridor also provide an increased capacity for firefighters and first responders during fire season, especially for the equipment and personnel based at the airport. Thank you to Secretary Ross and the Economic Development Administration for these funds to help Butte County respond to wildfires while also encouraging the growth of Chico's local economy. After over a decade of working on this project, not only did we receive the award of an EDA grant, but in an unprecedented manner, said Chico Public Works Director Brendan Ottoboni. We received 100% of the funding required for the project, when it typically requires a 25% match! This roadway improvement will increase economic vitality and reduce fatal collisions that have been experienced along this stretch of roadway. We are extremely excited for our community! This grant from the EDA to expand Cohasset Road will improve travel and commerce for our great city, said Chico City Council Member Sean Morgan. I appreciate Congressman LaMalfa's work to support the city in securing these funds and see this project through to completion.
