With current funding set to expire on November 21, 2019, this legislation will extend government funding at current levels through December 20, 2019. LaMalfa said: I've never been a fan of passing temporary continuing resolutions the House should be able to do its job and pass a budget, which hasn't happened in two years. While this measure avoids a government shutdown for a few weeks, Democrats have merely punted from Thanksgiving to Christmas, where we'll have to try again. They're kicking the can down the road and, in doing so, they've also increased funding for certain programs and added a reauthorization to programs not included in previous CRs, such as surveillance of Americans under the Patriot Act. Such a sensitive matter of privacy and national security deserves a full-throated debate on the House floor, not a back-channel reauthorization as part of a broad government funding measure that has been forced through our chamber in less than 24 hours. We need a long-term solution that provides our nation with stability, namely for our military and border security, and this measure falls well short.
