Today the United States House of Representatives voted to overturn the veto on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). President Trump vetoed the NDAA over concerns with the lack of a repeal of Section 230. The NDAA includes nearly $1 billion for defense programs in Colorado's Fifth District. Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement: One of the only enumerated roles of the federal government is to provide for the common defense. The most important vote I take every year as a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee is on the National Defense Authorization Act. This legislation is critical to ensuring that our men and women in uniform have the resources they need to execute the dangerous missions they are assigned. I simply could not oppose this bill when it provides nearly a billion dollars of defense spending in our district, bolsters our cybersecurity defense, modernizes our military to deter Russia and China, and provides a much-needed pay raise for our troops. I understand President Trump's concerns about Section 230 and I share those concerns. This is why I am a cosponsor of legislation from my colleague Rep. Gosar which would revise Section 230 and prevent Big Tech from censoring and silencing conservatives. However, we cannot allow our near-peer adversaries to take advantage of any disruptions in funding for our troops or in research and development. I must support our troops and protect our national defense. This legislation also provides a three percent pay raise to our troops, codifies important national security space launch language, enhances our defense cooperation with allies and partners such as Israel, fully funds nuclear modernization, provides funds to counter China, and bolsters our cybersecurity defense.
