https://lamborn.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2490 Congressman Lamborn's Geological Mapping Bill Passes House 2018-11-14 2018 2018-11 Republican House CO Doug Lamborn L000564 lamborn.house.gov     legacy Washington D.C. -As a member of the Committee on Natural Resources, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) welcomed the passage of his bill, the National Geologic Mapping Act Reauthorization Act(H.R. 4033). This legislation would reauthorize funding for advanced digital geologic maps and three-dimensional models through 2023. An identical, companion bill, S.1787, was introduced in the Senate by Senator Murkowski and has been favorably reported out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Congressman Lamborn released the following statement: "Geologic maps provide valuable information needed for identifying energy, mineral, and water resources, geologic and environmental hazards, unstable ground subject to landslides, swelling soils, floodplains, and abandoned mine lands. With this knowledge, communities and citizens are able to plan for septic systems in rural areas, water treatment facilities, and road construction and maintenance, home construction and other infrastructure. This common-sense legislation will benefit the entire country. In my home state of Colorado, the geological mapping program resulted in the production of an advanced geologic map and companion report that showcased recreational and historic mining, leading to efficiency opportunities from Leadville to Salida. I look forward to seeing the fruits of economic and developmental benefits throughout the nation." 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
